21 Indians including two in the top 10 found their way in the World’s Most Admired list 2018. The list which was released by YouGov, an UK based market research firm, culminated responses of over 37,000 people from across 35 countries, with the data being spread over three years. YouGov’s data has also been split into local categories which allows users to see which figures were most popular in their country.
The list was a stamp on India’s and Indians’ growing popularity and influence on the world and its development with the Prime Minister of the country Narendra Modi finding himself on the eight position, the highest achieved by any Indian in the list.
The World’s Most Admired list 2018 for men was a diverse one, featuring people from all professions. People belonging to verticals such as politics, business and sporting backgrounds all made up one of the most prestigious ratings in the world. The list of the top 20 most admired women was a bit restrained though with the entertainment industry making up for most of the slots in the list.
The Britain-based YouGov said on its website, “Entertainers dominate the female top twenty, with 14 of the most admired women being actresses, singers or TV presenters (although some, like Emma Watson and Angelina Jolie, are also notable for their humanitarian work). By contrast, the list of most admired men contains more people from political, business and sporting backgrounds.”
The list was once again topped by Bill Gates, the one of four businessmen in the top 100. The US based businessman has topped the list every time since the company started these rankings and it came across as no surprise to find him at pole position yet again. Apart from the World’s second richest man, prominent business personalities such as Alibaba’s Jack Ma, Tesla’s Elon Musk and Warren Buffett also featured on the list.
Following on from Gates, Barack Osama came in second with a score of 9.7 as opposed to Gates 9.9.Jackie Chan, Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladmir Putin completed the top 5.
For India Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan came in at ninth, right behind Modi. The Bollywood industry also saw Priyanka Chopra on 10th and Deepika Padukone on 11th in the World’s Most Admired list 2018.
