England lost the first test at Edgbaston, but will now look to bounce back whereas the Aussies will look to go up 2-0 at Lords. The venue is where Australia won the ODI world cup match against England.

The Hosts were completely outplayed by the Aussies. Nothing went right for England in that test match. Apart from having Australia under the mat at one stage, Australia was reeling 122 for the loss of 8 wickets. Other than that, it was purely Australia who dominated with both, the bat and the bowling. England’s batting caused a lot of problems, especially in the 2nd innings where Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon ripped the England batsmen for a low score. While Lyon took 6 wickets to his name, Cummins took 4.

The batsmen should have applied more on the last day of the test match. Rory Burns played well in the first innings. He was the star for England, but when the team needed the most of him, he couldn’t deliver for his team. Bruns is an inexperienced batsman and is inexperienced which was clearly visible when he scored just 11 runs in the 2nd innings. Joe Root, the England skipper needs to score big hundreds as he usually does more often. In the first test, he scored 50 in the first innings and 28 in the second. But England will need more than that from him. Root is expected to put up a better show at Lords.

2nd Ashes Test 2019 Match

Jason Roy is a much better player in the 50 over format. After his performance in the 1st test match, one may say he didn’t do too well for the hosts. But now, he will have to perform well as England will rely on him for a good start. Roy will be the player to watch out for in the test match at Lords. Buttler and Bairstow, the twin wicket keepers for England, had a bad test match at Edgbaston. They will need to hold the middle order together because they no more have the experienced, in-form of Joe Denly, who was the preferred choice for England at the number 4 batting position. So, it is the responsibility of both Buttler and Bairstow to keep the middle order stable and keep the innings on hold.

Chris Woakes is the man who has picked up the most wickets at Lords and has also scored the most runs here at “the home of cricket”. He has picked up 6 wickets when England played their last test match against Ireland at the same venue. England will want repetition in Woakes’ performance when the two sides meet on Wednesday. Woakes is another all-round player who will be the player to watch out for in this test match.

2nd Ashes Test 2019 Match

Jofra Archer is in line to play his debut test match at Lords. Archer wasn’t picked in the 1st test match. But, James Anderson who suffered a calf injury has forced the selectors to go with Archer. Jofra Archer will be the X factor for England. He has the line and length which can trouble the Australian batsmen. Archer can also add some runs when required, so England will need his batting too.

Stuart Board was another bowler who picked up 4 wickets at the same venue against Ireland. England will want him to deliver in both the innings. Board picked up 5 wickets in the first innings at Edgbaston but in the 2nd innings he picked up only 1. This is what made the difference for England in that test match. Board will be expected to put his name on the honors board after giving a good performance at Lords this time.

2nd Ashes Test 2019 Match

Jack Leach, number 11, who opened the innings and scored a gusty 82 runs against Ireland will make his debut against the top-quality side. Leach will be replacing Moen Ali. Ali has been dropped out from the second test match after his poor performance in both the innings in the first test match. Leach shouldn’t play like Ali and should use this opportunity and do wonders for England. The selection of Leach will give England an extra bowling option. This will also take their batting deeper from the last test match.

2nd Ashes Test 2019 Match – Australia vs England – Ashes Test Series – Team Australia’s Preview

The visitors were saved by Steve Smith. He had a special comeback in the longer version of the game. Smith’s twin centuries in the 1st test match sealed the game for Australia. Now, the Aussies will look to put more pressure on England by winning the test match at Lords. This is the venue where Australia lost the semi-final world cup match against England some weeks ago. So the Aussies will want to overcome their poor performance but in a different format.

Australia will need runs from David Warner and Cameron Bancroft. These openers failed poorly in the 1st test match which led to pressure on the lower-order batsmen which was taken by Steve Smith very nicely. Warner and Bancroft had a poor comeback in test cricket. Warner had a good world cup but his performance in Edgbaston was very poor. He aggerated the lowest runs from the test match. Warner needs to repair his score by using his explosive batting at Lords.

2nd Ashes Test 2019 Match

Bancroft, on the other hand, plays on test cricket. If he doesn’t perform here then life would be difficult for him. His place will be in danger and he will be out of the playing XI again. So, the openers have a lot to play for in the 2nd test match. Mathew Wade scored a fighting century in the first test. His partnership with Steve Smith allowed Australia to post a mammoth score in the 1st innings. Wade will look to continue his brilliance performance. For the first time, Wade is playing the test match as a pure batsman. He also credited his success for that.

Tim Paine had a good test as a skipper and as a keeper. But still, he needs to contribute more as a batsman. He played well in the second innings of the test after Smith and Wade’s show. But, it would have been great if Paine would have contributed in the first innings when Australia was struggling. Paine needs to lead the team from the front as Smith did during his captaincy days.

2nd Ashes Test 2019 Match

Despite no Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Marsh, Australia’s bowling was amazing in the first test match. Pattinson, Cummins, Siddle, Hazlewood, and Lyon were amazing with the ball. They will look to continue their amazing bowling form at Lords too.
