Naseeruddin Shah is a multifaceted figure; for he is a Film, Television & Theatre artist as also a Director. A distinguished figure in Indian cinema, Naseeruddin Shah has won numerous awards which include three National awards, three Filmfare awards & three Venice Film Festival Awards. He is a proud recipient of the Padam Shri & Padam Bhushan Awards for his contribution to Indian cinema. Naseeruddin Shah has been honored for Lifetime Membership of International Film and Television Club of Asian Academy of Film and Television. He released his biography in 2014 with the Title “Then One Day”.
Naseeruddin Shah was born on 16th August 1950 to a Muslim family in a small village called Barabanki, in Uttar Pradesh He got married to Manara Sikri at the early age of 20, but took a divorce in a short span of time after the birth of their daughter. He is now married to Ratna Pathak Shah, a well-known Theatre, TV, and Film personality. With Ratna, Shah has two sons Vivaan & Imaad, who like their parents have ventured into acting.
Naseeruddin Shah started his career with theatre at the age of 14. Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice was his first theatre show. Shah’s debut movie “Nishant” was awarded the National Award for Best Film Catagory. The movie was also nominated for Oscars.
Naseeruddin Shah has done innumerous movies in Indian cinema, but, he shot to fame with his movie “Hum Paanch” in 1980. Some of the most popular films of his career are Masoom, Karma, and Sarfarosh, which brought him critical acclaim. Some of his other popular movies were Ghulami, Tridev, Vishwatma, Mohra, Sarfarosh, and The Dirty Picture.
Naseeruddin Shah has also done some meaningful series on television. Some of the most famous have been Mirza Ghalib and Bharat Ek Khoj.
