Alia Bhatt movie Raazi based on a real life of Indian Spy

Alia Bhatt starrer Raazi’s trailer was out a few days ago and Alia has impressed her fans once again. Though the fans are super intrigued, we still have to wait for almost a month to watch the movie in theatres.




The movie is directed by Meghna Gulzar and produced by Junglee Pictures and Dharma production.

Raazi trailer reveals the plot of the story where a young girl from India is married off in Pakistan to keep an eye on all the inside information about Pakistan. According to the Dharma Production, the movie is based on the Harinder Sikka ‘s novel “calling Sehmat“. Sehmat wasn’t her real name it was created by Harinder Sikka in a manner to maintain the safety of this woman and her family.

Some people say that that Raazi is based on the true story of a young girl who was married off Pakistan in 1971 to provide inside information of Pakistan as a war was anticipated between India and Pakistan.


Raazi movie is the journey of an ordinary Indian girl dealing with extraordinary circumstances. According to Harinder Sikka, he went to Kargil in order to do a media piece where he came across an army officer who told him about his mother’s story and that she worked as an Indian spy at a very young age.  He also told that his mother was a daughter of a Kashmiri businessman who married her to a Pakistani army officer to get information during the war 1971.  Sikka, after the Kargil war, tracked down the woman to Kotla in Punjab and after some research finally got her true story.

According to the author, It took about eight years to complete the novel as revealing the name of the spy and information she brought would be a dangerous move. Very few people know that the most important information provided by Sehmat was Pakistan’s plan to sink INS Virrat. This major information helped in saving the pride of India. After finishing her duties as Indian Spy, Sehmat returned to India. She was pregnant at that time and later her son also went off to serve the Indian army after growing up.


The movie Raazi also stars Rajit Kumar and Soni Razdan as Sehmat’s parents, Vicky Kaushal as sehmat ‘s husband and Jaidee Aahlawat her raw handler.


Raazi is all set to hit the big screens on May 11.
