Amarnath Yatra is said to start on 29th June and will last for 40 days. The decision was reportedly taken at a meeting of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board on Monday.
The meeting was attended by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Dr Kapila Vatsyayan, Dr (Prof) Ved Kumari Ghai, Pandit Bhajan Sopori, Vijay Dhar, Dr Devi Prasad Shetty, D C Raina, all Members of the Board. Besides, P K Tripathi, Chief Executive Officer and Jitendra Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board, also attended the meeting.
The duration of the yatra was decided in the view of safety of the pilgrims.
The Board decided that the Amarnath yatra would start on the auspicious day of Skandshasthi as per Hindu calendar and conclude on Shravan Purnima on 7th August 2017 (Raksha Bandhan). They also decided that a special Pooja at Chandanwari would be held on the day of Jayesh Purnima which falls on 9th June This year, to invoke the blessing of Lord Shiva for the smooth and safe conduct of the pilgrimage.
Considering the carrying capacity if the existing tracks and other available infrastructure the board has decided that 7500 yatris (pilgrims) will be allowed per day excluding the one who would travel from helicopters.
Registrations for the same can be made at the 433 designated branches of Punjab national bank, Jammu and Kashmir Bank and YES Bank. Registration for pilgrims’ w.e.f from 1st March 2017.
