Super 30 is a highly ambitious and innovative Indian educational program that is running under the banner of ‘Ramanujan School of Mathematics’, by Anand Kumar. In this institute only 30 meritorious talented students are selected every year from economically backward sections of the society and they are prepared for IIT-JEE (Entrance test for IIT). Under this program, absolutely free coaching, lodging and food are provided to these students.
In 2002, Anand Kumar came out with this new idea where he would select 30 talented students who cannot afford coaching fees for IIT entrance exams. His Mother, Jayanti Devi, volunteered to cook for the students. In the first year 18 students out of 30 cracked IIT-JEE. Next year in 2004, 22 students out 30 qualified. In 2006, IIT changed its examination pattern and still 28 students out of 30 cleared the IIT-JEE that year. Bihar CM Nitish kumar appreciated their efforts and rewarded each student with a cash prize of Rupees 50,000. Former students of SUPER 30 also joined as a teachers and in 2009 all 30 students cleared IIT-JEE. The 100% success ratio has been repeated in 2017 as also 2008, 2009 and 2010. Last year 28 students out of 30 had qualified.
Super 30 initiative has been appreciated not only in India but also internationally. Actress and former Miss Japan Norika Fujiwara visited Patna only to make a documentary on Anand Kumar’s initiatives. In 2009, Discovery Channel broadcasted a program on SUPER 30 and the same year also his name was listed in Limca Book of Records for helping Poor Students. Anand Kumar also shared his experiences at IIM Ahmedabad, various IITs, University of British Columbia, Tokyo University and Stanford University in various personal interactive sessions. Super30 was also praised by former USA president Barack Obama.
Anand Kumar has been bestowed upon several awards. In 2010, he was awarded S. Ramanujan Award and same year he also got top award of Bihar government “Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad Shiksha Puraskar. A Biopic has also been announced on him. Anand Kumar presented his auto biography, written by Canadian psychiatrist Biju Mathew, to the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee.
This is indeed a great initiative for the upliftment of deserving economically weaker students and teaches us that it is important for us to give something back to the Society. We wish them many more 100% results in future.
