As per the reports, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath is planning food in Rs.5 for poor people of UP. In an announcement made by Chief Minister’s office on Twitter, the UP Government wants to ensure that no one goes hungry in UP. The scheme will be called “Annapurna Bhojanalya“.
Annapurna Bhojanalya will serve breakfast in Rs.3 only which may include a few healthy dishes like Porridge, Poha, idli-sambhar as well as Tea and Pakoras. The Lunch and Dinner may be kept at just Rs.5 and the food may include Dal, seasonal vegetable, roti and rice. It is expected that the servings will be unlimited and one will be able to eat as much as he/she can. The cost of 3 meals a day per person would be just Rs.13. Government shall have to spend additional Rs.48 from their side.
Basic draft of the scheme is ready as the Yogi Adityanath Government started working on it right after it took charge of the State. The Government is working on finalising this soon so that implementation can happen as soon as possible.
According to the plan, 200 subsidized kitchens would be set up across the state in urban and semi-urban areas. Pilot project is expected to be launched in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Kanpur and Ghaziabad. NGOs would be roped in to run and manage the kitchens. Migrant labour from nearby cities like eastern UP as also from Nepal’s Terai belt, which come to big cities like Lucknow would also benefit from this scheme.
As per reports, people will be able to buy pre-paid tokens and plastic cards to avail benefits under the scheme. The tokens may be valid for one week and plastic cards shall be linked to Aadhar Card.
Credit for starting such schemes goes to the Ms.J Jayalalitha, the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. She had started the scheme where poor could eat in Rs.5. Rajasthan Government also run kitchens on similar lines.
The Annapurna Bhojanalya scheme is another positive step from the Yogi Adityanath’s Government which is working hard for betterment of the people of UP.
