All Party Kashmir team meets Hurriyat for talks in Kashmir
Members of All Party Kashmir (APK) team made their first attempt to meet personally to Kashmiri separatists today. But according to reports they were turned away at every place and so All Party Kashmir team meets Hurriyat.
The leaders decided to reach out for Hurriyat after PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti’s was rejected for talk, saying that the burden was on them to give it a shot even if they were humiliated.
An aggressive and warlike reception was received by left leaders Mr Sitaram Yechury, D raja and Mr Yadav who went to meet separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani. They were greeted with Anti- India slogans by supporters of Geelani and were denied entry which is why All Party Kashmir team meets Hurriyat.
Later in the evening, Mr Yechury, Mr Raja and Mr Yadav went to meet the Mirwaiz. Mr Yechury said they had a conversation that lasted 15-20 minutes, but the Hurriyat leaders have taken a decision “not to talk of anything tangible” He added, “We are hopeful that something positive will happen. Our signal to the people of Kashmir is that we have come here to share their pain. We have gone out of our way to meet the Hurriyat leaders”.
The leaders said in a statement that this beginning was necessary, out of which Mr. Yechury said “We are with the people of Kashmir. Need peace to prevail. We are ready to talk without any conditions to all the stakeholders”.
This morning, the Hurriyat had rejected Ms Mufti’s invitation to join talks with the visiting delegation, which she had sent yesterday as the chief of the People’s Democratic Party and not the state’s chief minister.
But National Conference chief Omar Abdullah had criticized her efforts, saying the government should have released the separatist leaders from house arrest if she was serious about talks.
