The greatest rivalry in test cricket resumes after a gap of two long years. England and Australia’s face-off in the 5 match test series will be starting from 1st August 2019 at Edgbaston. The rivalry between these two top test nations started in 1882 and now holds a huge reputation in the longest format of the game. Australia hasn’t won a test match series on England soil since 2001 and the hosts are on an unbeaten run at home since July 2014. Both the teams have even battles on their hands.

The squad of both the teams is announced, where Jofra Archer was handed his maiden test series for England. For Australia, their batting department looks stronger with the return of Warner, Smith, Bancroft, and Wade. Australia’s bowling shouldn’t be taken lightly by England. He is a very good batsman and has had a good world cup, where he tried to win the match by himself. He is the perfect number 4 batsman for England who can rescue them if there is any need. Jofra Archer

It has been a wonderful year for Jofra Archer. After his world cup selection, he will now be making his Test debut for England. It will be a proud moment for Archer. Archer is a world-class bowler and we have seen him in the world cup. He has a good record for his domestic team Sussex too. Archer has picked up 131 wickets in just 54 games for them. Joseph Edward Root

Root has many names in the England side. He is called the backbone of England’s batting, the middle order pillar for England, and the Modern-day great cricketing legend. Root holds the major responsibility for England in this test series. He should bat at number 3, no matter what the situation is. Root is the best number 3 batsman for England when the need arises. Root has scored 1538 runs from 23 matches and 40 innings with 2 centuries and 10 fifties playing at the number 3 position for England. He can handle pressure situations with ease, which is why he is called the middle order pillar of England. 

Jimmy Anderson 

James Anderson is a legend himself. He is the best test bowler for England who still serves the longest format of the game. Anderon will be ‘the man’ to watch out for in this Ashes test series. He holds the key for England in the bowling department.

He is the backbone of Australia’s batting and while he was banned, the Aussies struggled to maintain that run, that’s why they lost the home series against India earlier this year. Now Australia has sorted the middle-order woes and they would want to make a strong comeback in the longest format of the game. Smith played well in the 2015 series which Australia lost. Australia has covered all the bases in this Ashes series. Aaron Finch was dropped. The ODI skipper, Finch struggled in the last test series. That’s why Cameron Bancroft has replaced Finch in the Ashes test series. Bancroft was a forced inclusion in the side. Cameron was good in the warm-up games and will be expected to do well in this 5 matches Ashes series. Bancroft will also aim for a good test return after what happened in South Africa. He will have to play well to cement his spot in the test side. He will open alongside David Warner who also will make a comeback in the Test arena.

David Warner 

Destructive Warner had a good comeback in international cricket. He was the highest run-scorer for the Aussies in the world cup. Now, he will want to make an impact in the Ashes test series. Tim Paine 

The skipper will have to deliver with the bat. Against India, he failed to do so and that’s why Australia couldn’t put up a fight in that home series. Now with the trio of Smith, Warner, and Bancroft being back, Paine will be in a lesser pain because of these 3. And, with Wade lowering down the order, it will make things a little easier for the skipper, Tim Paine. But he will have a job on his hands, as Australia is in search of their first test series win on England soil after 2001. 

Mitchell Starc

Starc was the star for Australia in the world cup tournament. He was the leading wicket-takers with the white ball and now he will be eager to make an impact with the red cherry too. Starc will do some early damage in England’s conditions. He will swing the ball both ways which might cause trouble for the England batsmen. Also, not to forget his contribution with the bat in the lower order too. Starc can hit some lusty blows and play some long innings too if needed. Starc will play the Ashes test series as an all-rounder because he can contribute with both the skills.
