Often helping in defence, Trippier also scored the only goal in their semi-final clash against Croatia that they lost with a scoreline 2-1. The Atletico team after finishing the second last season is going through a lot of changes as they lost their star players such as Antoinne Griezmann, Lucas Hernandez and Diego Godin while signing interesting prospects like Joao Felix and Marcos Llorente. Atletico has found the replacement for Diego Godin who has left for Inter Milan in Felipe. He used to play for FC Porto. Long term full-backs such as Juanfran and Luis Filipe decided not to extend their contract with Atletico Madrid forcing them to look for replacements.

Trippier fulfils the wishes of Diego Simeone (Manager of Atletico Madrid). According to Spanish media, he wanted to sign Nelson Semedo from Barcelona as he likes to have defenders with a high rate of work. The signing of Kieran has been made for a duration of 3 years with his contract set to terminate in 2022. Atletico has also bought the 21-year-old left-back Renan Lodi who played for Athletico Paranaense. The departure of Trippier has led to spurs making initial contacts with Fulham’s left-sided player, Ryan Sessegnon, together with his twin brother, Steven, a right-back. Atletico Madrid and their current squad is a debatable topic. They are signing good, quality players but also at the same time are bidding farewell to their star players that have made the club what it is today.
