Australia Ashes Test Series – The Aussies have geared up for the all-important, Ashes Test Series which will start from 1st August 2019 at Edgbaston.

Cricket Australia has announced their squad for this 5 match test series. The highlight of this squad is that the comebacks of Steve Smith, David Warner, and Cameron Bancroft. These 3 players were banned for a one year due to the ball-tampering saga in South Africa. Australia has now announced the 17 members for the Ashes test series. Mathew Wade has earned the Ashes call up due to his good performance in the domestic circuit. Wade has a remarkable turnaround for the Tasmania side. James Pattison also earned a test call up for the Ashes. Pattison played his last test match in 2016 for the Aussies, while the medium-pacer, Michael Nesser has been drafted to the squad.

The Aussies have decided to go with just 1 front line spinner and 5 pacers on this tour to England. Mitchell Marsh who was dropped from the previous test side has been recalled for the Ashes. Marsh’s medium pace will assist the Australians on this tour. He is also a capable batsman down the order. Recently, Marsh showed his all-round skills. He picked up a fifer and showed his batting class as well. Australians have said that they have picked a 17 member squad that ensures them of flexibility and they want to keep their players in a good shape. There are 5 test matches to be played in 6 weeks, so the team management wants its players to be fit. The squad which has been selected consists of top quality batsmen and pace bowlers while Nathon Lyon is only the preferred spinner in the side.

Australia has also been well prepared for this event. 8 of their players named in the squad have already been with Australia A team. The Australia A team has been in England for more than a month and 6 of them have also featured in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup. The last 3 Aussie players have already been playing cricket in England. Australia has got used to the conditions well and now will be prepared for an even contest of batting and bowling. Australia has a strong team attack, with Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Michael Nesser, and the all-rounder, Michell Marsh. The Aussies also have Josh Hazlewood in their 17 member squad. Hazlewood missed the test series against Sri Lanka and the ICC Cricket World cup due to a back injury. With Hazlewood, James Peter has also been included in the side.

While Cameron Bancroft was named the 2nd opener in the Ashes test series, David Warner will be the 1st opener in the matches. Bancroft scored 93 runs in the warm-up matches of the Ashes Test Series and that’s why he was forced into the test side. David Warner has had a good World Cup and will be also seen with Australia’s former skipper, Steve Smith. Australia will go with Nathan Lyon as the lead spinner and they have also picked up the leg-spinning option of Marnus Labuschagne. He can bowl 200 overs. Labuschagne did it for his county side, Glamorgan. Due to a good performance given by Mathew Wade in the Australian A side and his Tasmania side, Alex Carey misses out of test call up. Carey had a good world cup but he won’t be in the Ashes squad for Australia.

Australia has selected as the best team for the Ashes Test Series. The Aussies won the series at home in 2017 and 18 but they haven’t won the Ashes in England since 2001 so the baggy green guys want to retain the urn.
