  • They wrapped up the test inside 4 days
  • They lead the series 1-0

An incredible performance by the Bangladeshis saw them create history as they recorded their first ever test win against Australia at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium in Dhaka. Warner struck and added 130 runs with Smith but their efforts were in vain as Australia were dismissed for 244, chasing 264. They handed Bangladesh a 20 run victory and a 1-0 lead in the two match test series.

Being seen as a warm-up tour before the Australians took on the mighty Indians later in September, the result of the first match came as a huge surprise to the cricketing community. The performance of Steve Smith’s side in the first Test was bog-standard as they went down against a determined Bangladesh side. Notching up a target of 264 after they were dismissed for 221 in the second inning, the lowly ranked Bangladesh team knew only a bowling performance of a  life-time could save them .And that is just what their spinners delivered as they ended up picking all 10 Australian wickets, taking the team to a 20 runs win. Shakib celebrated his 50th Test appearance by scoring 84 and finishing with a 10-wicket match haul to star for the Bangladeshis.

Steve Smith :“It was a great Test March Credit to Bangladesh the way they played. The first innings the partnership between Shakib and Tamim set up the game for them.”

“We let ourselves down a bit in the first innings with the bat. It was quite difficult batting in the second inning here and I thought we did quite well getting 240 in the end.”

These are exciting times for Bangladesh cricket as they now have ended up defeating England, Australia and Sri Lanka this season.
