The hosts scored the opening goal of the game with a low cross from Serge Gnabry and a sliding finish from the Polish striker, Robert Lewandowski, who became the first player to score five consecutive season-opening games. The game half-time ended with the result 1-0. After the halftime, the visitors stunned the home fans by scoring 2 goals in 3 minutes and went from trailing by one goal to leading by one goal. The first goal came with a deflected shot from Dodi Lukebakio who scored a hattrick last season against Bayern Munich playing for Fortuna Dusseldorf, and then former Liverpool player, Marko Grujic dribbled the ball past Neuer for a win. Grujic’s goal was assisted by the captain, Vedad Ibisevic who lobbed the ball over the defence to make it a simple 1v1. Bayern Munich won a penalty at the hour mark because of a foolish move by Grujic which wasn’t seen by the referee but a VAR decision helped Bayern get a much-deserved penalty which was very easily scored by Lewandowski bringing the score to level.
