BJP Leader Arrested With Rs. 33 Lakh in New Rs. 2,000 Notes
A BJP politician Manish Sharma based in Bengal was arrested along with six other in Kolkata with bundles of cash worth Rs. 33 lakh, out of which most of the cash was in new 2000 rupee notes.
Manish Sharma was an ex BJP candidate in Raniganj. He was arrested with 10 lakh in possession and remaining 23 lakh was seized from other six people who were arrested along with him.
Seven culprits were arrested on Monday by the police who was tipped off that the group was traveling in Innova car from Durgapur to Kolkata.
One of them, named Raju Jha in the group, is suspected to be part of the coal Mafia.
Mr. Sharma was close to Union Minister Babul Supriyo. Babul Supriyo said after Sharma’s arrest, “we gave him a ticket but after that when he tried to meet me, I avoided. I don’t know anything about his coal mafia associations”.
