BJP wins Gujarat Assembly Election 2017
Gujrat Assembly Election 2017, result declared today in the favour of BJP. BJP took the lead by sweeping away 99 out of the 182 seats. Congress gave tough competition and took away 79 seats while others got 4.
The Gujarat election battle is seemed to be a prestige issue for PM Narendra Modi for being his home turf as well as for the newly elected Congress President Rahul Gandhi. During the counting of votes the congress had suddenly gained more seats than BJP but after half an hour the fortune turns around for the BJP and again PM’s party had a comfortable win.
During the election campaign, PM Modi had led a high-voltage battle against Congress and Hardik Patel. Hardik Patel is the face of a massive agitation of Patel or Patidar community for reservation in government jobs. He has joined hands with Congress and the results from his support can be seen in the results of Congress winning at far too many seats. The forecast before the election had shown that the BJP is ahead in South Gujarat (Surat) where the negativity of the controversial Goods and Services Tax (GST) did not have much impact. It is the fifth consecutive win of BJP in the Gujarat Assembly Election. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani won from Rajkot West by a big margin and so has Deputy CM Nitin Patel in Mehsana. Dalit activist Jignesh Mevani has scored his maiden election victory from Vadgam. BJP has been ruling in Gujarat from the last two decades and a win is a good sign for the PM ahead of the 2019 General Elections. After the declaration of the result, PM Modi showed the victory sign with a smile while walking into the Parliament and BJP supporters are celebrations the win in a big way.
