Brandon Fernandes – Newest Addition to the Indian Football Team
Brandon Fernandes is an Indian footballer, born on 20th September 1994 in Margao, Goa. Brandon Fernandes goes by the nickname ‘Indian Rakitic’ as his play style is similar to the Croatia and Barcelona midfielder. Brandon plays in the Indian Super League for FC Goa. He is an attacking midfielder and wears the number 10 jersey for Goa.
Brandon’s football journey started outside of India, in South Africa. He got the chance to play third-tier football with ASD Cape Town. Brandon fernandes returned to home shores and signed for Sporting Clube de Goa. He scored three goals during the 2014-15 I League season in nine appearances and helped his side avoid relegation. Later, he got transferred to Mohun Bagan in the 2015-16 where his club finished second in the league. Brandon signed for Indian Super League club FC Goa at the start of the 2017-18 campaign and has scored four goals in 10 appearances till now.

Under the new coach Igor Stimac, Brandon has gotten his breakthrough for the Blue Tigers. The new coach has shown confidence in the Goan midfielder and is a part of the 35-man probable squad training day in and day out in hope of making it the final list for the upcoming Hero Intercontinental Cup. Brandon fernandes made his debut in Kings Cup which was held in Thailand and he has been identified as the key players around which Igor wants to build the team around.

The winger recalled his debut in an interview with the AIFF and said, “It was a great experience to get my first Indian Cap, that too against a top side like Curacao. I had been waiting to get into the team for a while. I knew that my chance would soon come. The coach eventually called me up, and I will eternally remain grateful to him.”

Indian Football team has been changed quite a bit under the new Croatian Manager with the team now playing with greater possession and intent than before. Brandon fernandes believes this play style is similar to that of FC Goa and he feels comfortable in the new tactics. He also hopes to do well in the upcoming Hero Intercontinental Cup.
