Brazil won the Copa America 2019- It is often said that the game of football was perfected by the Brazilians but it was after 12 years that Brazil has now won a major international trophy. Brazil being the host nation were the favorites to win the cup alongside Argentina that got eliminated in the semi final by Peru. Brazil defeated Peru, 3-1 to seal the major title. Brazil’s manager, Tite didn’t include Neymar in his starting line up which enabled his side to play a free flowing passing game. It is the ninth time that Brazil is crowned as the Copa America Champions and it was their first one after 2007.

Everton gave the lead to the Brazilians in the 15th minute of the match as he scored a volley of a Gabriel Jesus cross. Peru’s key player, Paolo Guerrero scored a penalty in the 44th minute, equalizing the game. Everybody expected the score to be level. Just before the half time whist by Jesus who assisted the first goal, scored a goal in the 48th minute bringing the lead back to Brazil. In the second half Brazil seemed to be in control of the game, the match started to become interesting when Jesus jumped into the back of Carlos Zambrano.

Referee, Roberto Tobar had no hesitation in producing the second yellow for Jesus who had already been booked. Jesus broke into tears and stormed off the pitch hitting the VAR equipment. After the match Jesus apologized for his behavior and said that he could have avoided the misconduct and still has room to grow as a player. Brazil held their own despite being 10 men down and Casemiro played a vital role in the midfield. He made 8 tackles in the game and asserted his dominance. In the last minutes of the game this time it was Zambrano who fouled on Everton handing Brazil a penalty in the 90th minute. Richarlison, the current Everton FC forward kept his cool and converted the penalty into a goal, sealing their victory and ending their trophy less drought which lasted more than 10 years.
