The 22-year-old Sindhu kicked off her tournament by facing World No. 9 He Bingjiao. It was a stern test for the Indian against a determined opponent who give it all her and took the match right down to the wire. After taking home the first set with consummate ease 21-11, Sindhu ended up losing a tightly contested second set which saw the Chinese roar back in style. With both opponents on the mat in the third set, Sindhu’s class outshone as both matched each other shot for shot.
