∙ Liverpool V.Crvena Zvezda

Travelling to a hostile stadium, the match was never going to be as easy as it looked on paper for Liverpool. Despite being Group C’s lowest-ranked team, Red Star had pulled a draw against Napoli at a home stadium that is known for creating an extremely unwelcome environment for visiting teams. Which is why Liverpool’s 4-0 out of their opponents was more impressive than the scoreboard reads.

After suffering defeat to Napoli in their last group match, Liverpool was desperate for the three points. Stepping up when it mattered, their fabled attack finally struck this season with Salah scoring 2 and Mane getting 1 as they ran circles around Zvezda throughout the night.

∙ PSG V. Napoli

Our second main event of the gameweek sees Group C feature once again. Such is the competitiveness of this year’s group of death that a 2-2 draw between PSG and Napoli leaves the top 3 sitting of 6, 5 and 4 points at the end of matchday 3.

Living up to expectations, PSG V. Napoli was everything we wanted from it and more. The visitors were by far the better side in the first half, reaping the rewards for their never-ending pressure on PSG’s goal via an Insigne opener in the 29th minute.

The second half continued in much the same vein with Napoli maintain their pressure on the hosts. Unlucky to concede an extremely unfortunate own goal after Rui bundled one into the back of his own net while trying to intercept a cross into the box, Napoli rightfully once again went into the lead on the night.

Mertens was at the scoring end this time around, with Napoli’s pace and guile opening PSG’s defence up. It was until the third minute of added time that PSG finally conjured up their second goal of the night which ensured the two sides shared the spoils on the day.

∙ Borussia Dortmund V. Atletico Madrid

The match was anticipated to be a tactical battle two sides who between them boasted a lightning-quick attack and a rock solid back four. Going into the match on top of the Bundesliga, lighting up the German league with their incredibly quick attacks, Dortmund’s 4-0 victory against Atletico Madrid still left us all surprised.

Known as one of the meanest defences in Europe, Atletico Madrid has been a traditionally defensively astute side for ages now. Which is why the ease with which Dortmund carved them apart; slicing them like knife cuts through butter was a huge testament to the way this Dortmund side has been playing this season.

Witsel and Sancho got one each with Guerrero getting himself a brace.
