Champions League 2019 Group F Qualifiers – Liverpool hosted Napoli last night in their UCL clash. Napoli was able to expose a lot of weaknesses of the reigning UCL winners. Carlo Ancelotti and his men performed exceptionally well and were very tactically sound. Jurgen Klopp started Joe Gomez in place of breakout player, Trent Alexander Arnold. Gomez was assigned the task to regulate the ball between Mo Salah and Dejan Lovren, but the 22-year-old failed to do so and as a result, Jordan Henderson was assigned to help.

Champions League 2019 Group F Qualifiers – Napoli’s attack was a problem for the Liverpool midfield and the opening goal from club legend Dries Mertens was extraordinary as he timed his run perfectly to receive the ball and struck the ball with magnificent technique in the far post despite being at a very tight angle. This goal was reviewed by the VAR and due to fullback, Robertson’s positioning was given on the side.

Both the teams created further chances but Liverpool seemed to lack any intent. Firmino had a couple of chances squandered whereas Mo Salah simply knocked the ball towards the goalkeeper. Kalidou Koulibaly continues to be the star defender for the Italian team as once again he was there to help the team make goal-line clearances. Liverpool found the equalizer through Dejan Lovren who scored in a similar fashion a couple of years back in a thrilling encounter against Dortmund in the UEFA Europa League(4-3). The game ended as a draw with both the teams sharing a point while Red Bull Salzburg defeated Genk 4-1 and walked away with 3 points.
