With the round of 16 telling us which all teams would go through to the quarter-finals to this year’s edition of the prestigious champions league tournament, the draw conducted on Friday in the presence of top footballing names and dignitaries paired the remaining eight teams against each other to reveal to us the quarter-final ties. The draw threw up some mouth-watering ties with English Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester City paired against each other and last year’s finalists Juventus and Real Madrid taking one each other once again.
The highlight tie drawn between Liverpool and City promises to be a blockbuster. With Liverpool being the only team in the premier league to have defeated runaway league leaders City till now, the high flying Manchester side will know they have their task cut out ahead of them when they face Jurgen Klopp’s side on 4th April.
City director of football Txiki Begiristain said: “It’s going to be a great couple of games.” “In the Champions League there is no time for mistakes, everything has to work, and you have to be almost perfect in both games.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said: “I saw his face. He didn’t look like it was Christmas.” “I knew it would be difficult and that is difficult. The good news is for Manchester City it will be difficult as well.”
In the other clash of the heavyweight’s tie, Juventus will be looking to take revenge against current holders Real Madrid who ended up defeating the Italian giants to take home their second consecutive title last year. In the other matches, Bayern Munich faces Sevilla and Barcelona face Roma on the 3rd and 4th April for the first leg and the 10th and 11th April for the second leg.
The Europa League draw was also conducted a short time after the Champions League one. It sees English side Arsenal take on CSKA Moscow while other favorites Atletico Madrid will take on Sporting Lisbon.
