The group stages of the Champions League have drawn to a close to give us the full set of teams to make the first knock-out phase of the tournament. It was an eventful matchday 6 with matches swinging, either way, to give us unexpected results in Europe’s premier club competition.
The Champions League Matchday 6 group standings saw premier league sides Liverpool and Tottenham silence their critics with favorable results to their name. While Liverpool got just the result they were hoping for with a 1-0 win against Italian side Napoli at Anfield to cement their place in the round of 16, Tottenham walked away from a tricky fixture against Barcelona with a 1-1 credit. With fellow second-place rivals Inter Milan failing to better their result, Tottenham ensured that they progressed to the next round from Group B behind Barcelona.
While on one hand the fate of several teams was sealed in the final round of group stage matches, matchday 6 also gave us its fair share of shocking results. Heavyweights Juventus and Real Madrid were silenced as Young Boys and CSKA Moscow pulled off massive exits to end their 2018-19 Champions league campaign on a high.
Real Madrid was silenced by the side from Russia who inflicted the worst home defeat on Madrid in a champions league group stage match to inflict another blow on an already poor season for the reigning champions. Big boys Juventus failed to defeat minnows Young Boys with an unexpected 2-1 result putting a small stain on an otherwise good group stage campaign for them.
