Pakistan, at their magnificent best, swarmed all over India to win the ICC Champions Trophy by 180 runs. India was outplayed in every department of the game as Pakistan cruised past them to defeat India for the first time in 8 years in an ICC tournament. A magnificent all-round saw them lift their maiden Champions Trophy.
Batting first Pakistan put on a master-class performance as they blew apart the Indian bowling unit with some explosive batting. The Pakistani openers put on a stand of 128 runs and India were left to rue missing out on getting rid Fakhar Zaman who was caught out at 3 but Jasprit Bumrah was adjudged to have bowled a no ball. Zaman went on to score a superb 114 runs off 106 balls, setting the stage for the Pakistani middle order. Continuing on the platform provided to them, the middle-order went on to set a target of 338 for India.
Faced with a nearly impossible start, India were rattled as they lost Rohit Sharma for a duck in the first over itself. Exquisite bowling by Mohammad Amir blew the India batting line-up apart.The only saving grace was a quick fire 76 by Hardik Pandya shambolic batting performance saw the Indian team collapse for only 158 runs to lose by 180 runs handing Pakistan their first Champions League trophy. Fakhar Ahmed was given the man of the match for his scintillating innings.
Man of the Tournament and the Golden Ball Award winner (13 wickets) was given to Hasan Ali. Shikhar Dhawan won the Golden Bat Award for scoring 338 runs in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
This brought the curtain down on the proceedings of the ICC Champions Trophy, 2017. It was an amazing tournament with top 8 teams of the world pitted against each other to battle for the title. It had all the twists and turns and beating all the odds to crown Pakistan the new champions.
