Chandra Shekhar Azad birthday – Chandra Shekhar Azad, a fearless freedom fighter and a bold revolutionary, who played a vital role in India’s independence. Chandra Shekhar was born on 23 July 1906 in Madhya Pradesh. He was the son of Pandit Sitaram Tiwari and Jagarani Devi. Azad completed his early education from Bhavra and was sent to learn Sanskrit at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh for higher studies. He was involved in revolutionary activities from a very young age. When he was caught by the British police first time while indulging in revolutionary activities, he was only 15.

On 27 February 1931, Azad died at Alfred Park in Allahabad. The police surrounded him in the park after his old companion, Virbhadra Tiwari informed police officers of his presence there. After a long shootout, he was injured badly by police bullets. Azad killed himself with his own pistol, keeping his pledge not to be caught alive by the British. His dead body was sent to Rasulabad Ghat for cremation without informing the public. But, as soon as the public got to know about his death, people surrounded the park and chanted slogans against British rule and praised Azad.
