Chennaiyin FC Thrash NorthEast United At Home
Match Highlights:
- Chennaiyin won 3-0
- They moved to 2nd in the standings
- The teams will next clash on 19th January
Chennaiyin FC recorded their first points of the season with a 3-0 win over NorthEast United in their second game of the group matches. After losing a tightly fought match 3-2t against FC Goa last week, Chennaiyin FC bounced back with an empathic win at home. A packed Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium was entertained to a good and attacking performance from the home side that saw them move second in the standings.
Chennaiyin rode on the high of their last match’s performance where despite being down 3-0 at half-time they rallied back to score two goals in the second half. A gritty performance by them, one which almost saw them snatch a draw showed the quality they possessed and why they are a real threat to content within this year’s ISL. And NorthEast bore the brunt of their attacking talent this time around as they crumbled in front of a pumped up Chennaiyin
Both teams were desperate for a win with NorthEast United starting their campaign with a 0-0 draw against newcomers Jamshedpur FC and Chennaiyin starting with a loss. The match was billed against the attacking force of Chennai which includes the likes of Jeje Lalpekjlua and Mohammed Rafi and the defensive talent of NorthEast. Chennaiyin came out trumps in this battle as they went on to trash three past a clueless NorthEast United who had no answer to the quick pace of Chennaiyin’s forwards. The two teams played out an exciting encounter with both sides creating plenty of chances and taking loads of shots on goal. It was, however, Chennai’s match from the start who not only dominated possession in the first half and second half but also converted their chances with clinical ease. Going down 1-0 after Hakku was guilty of scoring an own goal, North East found no way back in the match. They ended up conceding a further two to Augusto (24) and Rafi (84) to lost 3-0 on the night and stay in the bottom half of the table with only one point.
