David Luiz joins Arsenal for a term of 2 years on a permanent transfer from Chelsea FC for a fee of 8 million euros. The 32-year-old center back is a big face when it comes to club football. He has represented teams such as Chelsea FC, PSG, Benfica and now Arsenal. The Brazilian has an experience of more than 520 games at the club level and has always performed well for the club when he has played.
David was Jose Mourinho’s favorite center back during his time at Chelsea. He also made 56 appearances for the Brazil National team, featuring in multiple Copa Americas and World Cups. David has been assigned the 23 shirts for the Gunners and we can expect him to fill in the void left after the departure of Laurent Koscielny who just moved to Bordeaux. Arsenal has definitely picked the right man as David is probably better than the french center back. Both of them have a lot of experience and trophies to their name.
Luiz also featured under Emery during his spell at PSG and now reunites with him as well. Both, the coach and the player have a good understanding within themselves which didn’t seem in the case of Laurent Koscielny. During his interview, David mentioned that he sees Arsenal as a big challenge and is not scared to try different things. He said it is essential for a footballer to come out of the comfort zone and develop the game even more. According to him, his cycle at Chelsea is finished now and he wants to embark on a new journey with the Gunners.
David also expressed that he is excited to be on the same side as Aubameyang and Lacazette as he won’t have to defend against them anymore. He added that their pace and movement in the third half was always difficult to defend against. David also mentioned that he liked the new signings of Dani Ceballos and Nicolas Pepe and felt that the club is headed in the right direction and aims to assist them in their future endeavor.
