An Aeronautical engineer by profession, Dr. Abdul Kalam served as The President Of India from 2002 to 2007. Born on 15th October 1931 in Rameshwaram, he worked with DRDO and ISRO.
India’s first indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle was designed and developed under the guidance of Dr. Abdul Kalam. He also played a major role in development of ‘Prithvi’and ‘Agni’ missiles as also India’s Pokhran-II nuclear test. Dr. Kalam worked as Chief Executive on Integrated Guided Missile Development programme to develop launching a quiver of missiles instead of one at a time. Dr.Abdul Kalam later became Secretary of DRDO and also worked as Chief Scientific Advisor to the Prime Minister.
Dr. Abdul Kalam went on to become The President Of India 2002 and served till 2007. He became the 11th President taking on from his predecessor Mr.K.R.Narayanan. Affectionately called the People’s President, he was loved by everyone.
Dr. Abdul Kalam received many prestigious Awards which include Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, Ramanujan Award, Veer Sawarkar and many more. He also received many International awards like Honorary Doctorate of Science by University of Wolverhampton in UK, International von Karman Wings Award by The California Institute of Technology, USA.
A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was a very learned man. He loved to teach and wanted to be remembered as a teacher. Even after becoming the President of India, he grabbed every opportunity to teach students. Minutes before he died due to cardiac arrest, Dr. Abdul Kalam was teaching students at IIM, Shillong. He wrote many books, some of the most famous of Dr. Abdul Kalam are :
