England Bounce Back To Win Third Test


Moeen Ali traumatized the South African batsmen who were out in chase of England’s 492 to guide England to a huge 239 runs victory. Moeen finished with 4 wickets and was superbly aided by the rest of the English bowlers as they bowled out South Africa for 252 in the third match of the series n the 100th match at the Oval. A crushing batting and bowling performance by the hosts sees them lead the series 2-1.


Having bowled out South Africa for a meagre 175 runs in the first innings, England declared their second innings at 313-8, giving South Africa an unlikely target of 492.Bairstow top scored with 63 runs while Maharaj was the pick of the South African bowlers with his 3 wickets.


Faced with the daunting task of chasing a record target, South Africa never looked in the chase. Opener Elgar starred with his magnificent 136 runs but was not provided any support by his compatriots who crumbled like a paper house caught in a tornado around him. No other South African batsman was able to reach the 50 run mark, as Moeen Ali’s wizardry caught them like a deer in headlights. He went on to pick up the first hat-trick of the series to complete a superb spell of 4-45.Roland-Jones picked up 3 wickets along the way to dismiss South Africa for 252 and take England to 239 runs wins.


England captain Joe Root: “What a way to celebrate the 100th Test at this ground. The way we batted in the first innings was really important and set a good benchmark for us. The way we bowled first up was exceptional.


The fourth match of the series will be played at Old Trafford, where England will be looking to seal the series.
