England vs Australia match highlights – Australia sneaked a comfortable victory over their arch-rivals England at the Home of Cricket. The Aussies are the first team who have Qualified for the Semi-Finals of the cricket World Cup 2019.

England won the toss and they opted to bowl first. England needed to bowl well in this must-win game but David Warner and skipper Aaron Finch continued their destructive form. It was their opening partnership which pushed England on the backfoot. Australia’s openers went on to share their 2nd consecutive hundred run stand in this tournament.
Warner and Finch added 123 runs which was too much for England, that too after they won the toss and bowled first. Warner reached to fifty and Finch looked to score his 2nd century of the tournament but the spin of Moen Ali did the trick for the hosts. After Warner reached his fifty-run milestone, he was out for 53 runs.
Then came Usman Khawaja, who batted till his captain got to another hundred in this tournament. But Khawaja didn’t last for long. He was dismissed after sharing a small partnership with Finch. Khawaja was out for 23 runs. Australia lost the momentum and after losing two wickets they also lost the centurion Finch for 100 runs.

England bounced back nicely. They picked up wickets at regular intervals and ensured that they won’t get a sniff target to chase. Australia lost their grip on the match as Maxwell was dismissed early. He scored only 12 runs. Marcus Stoinis too wasn’t there for long, he made only 8 runs. Further Australia got another huge blow when their set batsmen Steve Smith was caught by Jofra Archer. Smith was out on 38 runs.
The Aussie batsmen couldn’t snitch any partnership after their mammoth opening stand. Once the score looked beyond 340 runs but England pulled things back very nicely. It was Alex Carey who took care of the later part, his knock of 38 runs enabled Australia to reach a defendable score.
At the end of the 50 overs, Australia scored 285 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.

It was a good comeback by England, they restricted Australia for less than 300 runs after the start they got. Moen Ali started the proceedings and then the Pacers joined the party and took the wickets. Chris Woakes took 2 wickets and Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Ben Stokes and Moen Ali took 1 wicket each to their name.

It was poor batting from England. They failed in another chase after they went down to Sri Lanka. England batsmen were all over the place in this match. James Vince continued his poor form, but in this match, he got a peach of a delivery by Behrendroff. Vince vanished for 0.
A lot was expected from Joe Root as after the early loss England wanted Root to stay with Bairstow. But he was caught plumb by Mitchell Starc for just 8 runs. This was the first low score from Root in this tournament. After 2 overs, England got another huge blow. This time it was England’s captain Eoin Morgan who was out after scoring just 4 runs.
Then it was little partnership between Stokes and Bairstow. But England needed a long stable partnership that was not there. Bairstow played a needless shot and he was caught by Behrendroff for 27 runs. Buttler and Stokes tried and shared a much-needed stand. Their 71-run partnership ticked England’s scoreboard. Buttler and Stokes needed to this stand for some more overs. But Buttler was out to Stoinis for 25 runs.

Then Buttler and Chris Woakes kept England alive for some time, Stokes played another lovely knock. Unfortunately, he didn’t get the right support. Ben Stokes was the only hope for England, but when he was out all was over. The 53-run stand between Woakes and Stokes was ended by Starc. Ben Stokes was clean bowled by Starc for well-made 89 runs and Moen Ali was also dismissed early for just 6 runs.
It was a small cameo from Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid which helped England to score at least 221 runs. Woakes was out for 26 runs and Rashid was the last man dismissed for 25 runs.
England couldn’t even bat for full 50 overs, they were bundled out in just 44.4 overs and only managed to score 221 runs.

Australia bowled exceptionally well. They were on the mark from the ball one. They bowled an impressive line and lengths which made difficult for England batsmen. Jason Behrendroff was the pick of the bowlers for Australia. He took his 5-wicket haul at Lords.
Mitchell Starc too was good. He took 4 wickets to his name and Marcus Stoinis also took 1 wicket. Australia won the game by 64 runs and entered the semi-finals of the World Cup 2019. Man of the match was awarded to Aaron Finch for his brilliant hundred runs.
