The England Vs India test series moves to Nottingham tomorrow for the third match of the five-match series. With England 2-0 up in the series, the hosts will be looking to kill off the series with another emphatic showing from their bowlers that has killed off Indian hopes this series. For the visitors, it’s a do or dies match. Continue the performances from the first two test matches and be branded failures yet again by the international media and fan base or put up a performance to stun everyone; the choice is simple for the Indians.
The problems for the Indians just keep going on and on. After all, when it rains, it pours. If the performance of the batsmen wasn’t a big enough a headache for the side, a back injury to captain Virat Kohli has rubbed salt on their wounds. Losing the only batsman who has put on a fight to Anderson, Broad, and Curran and has stood his own despite witnessing chaos at the other end will be a huge loss to India.
India are also sweating on the fitness of Ashwin. The spinner has been the only Indian bowler who has consistently bowled well in the series. The return of pacer Jasprit Bumrah is good news though for the visitors who are in dire need of a comeback in the series.
The main questions still remain in the batting department for India. And that is what the focus was in the nets with the batsmen sweating it out for hours at a stretch in a hope to better their application and technique. With winds prevalent at the Nottingham cricket ground, pacers will get more than their fair share of purchase from the conditions which will help them dink the ball both ways.
For England, the break between the second and third test couldn’t have been more relaxing. The team has taken the time off to relax after a convincing win in the second test at Lords. They will be going into tomorrow’s match with the same team combination as they look to seal the England Vs India test series.
