Football has witnessed Racist acts before but they have largely been condemned in recent years.
Last night’s game between Bulgaria and England got halted twice as Gareth Southgate and others reported of racist chants during the match. The 2 halts came in the first half alone and Southgate had made a plan he and his players would follow Uefa’s three-step protocol and so they did. After lengthy discussions, and in accordance with Uefa’s protocol for dealing with racism, the crowd were warned of the consequences if there were further problems. Still, there was a further stoppage just before half-time.

First, there was an announcement over the public mic to urge the chants and abuses to stop and, when they did not, the referee, Ivan Bebek paused the game just before the interval and asked Southgate whether he wanted to take his players off to the dressing room. Southgate said he wanted to get the game to the half time. There was the option for England not to return on the pitch but, according to the Football Association chairman, Greg Clarke, the players wanted to resume as they did not want the racists to win.

Marcus Rashford got over his dry spell firing his team into the lead early in the match (Seven minutes). Ross Barkley then put a brace to his name in the first half as three lions headed back to the dressing room leading 4 goals to 0, the fourth one being added by Raheem Sterling.

Captain of the England national team also joined the goal fest as he scored the final goal of the game from outside of the box.
Despite some high-level football being played, it was disappointing to see that it was Racism that became the highlight of the match.
