Chelsea Vs Malmo
Having held onto a one-goal lead in the first leg, as Chelsea returned to Stamford Bridge, their howler of a past month continued in the first half as a team filled with fringe players failed to live up to the expectations in the first half. The visitors continued with their high-intensity game, continuously and persistently pressing Chelsea well into their own half to stop them from playing their usual quick-footed football, a move that they had executed perfectly in the first leg as well.
With supporters far from rested after the floundering first half, the Chelsea players went onto earn some of their trust back with a resounding show, one a complete upturn from the previous half. There was intent in the players as they took the outright responsibility on themselves to deliver an incisive performance and put 3 past the visitors to move onto the round of 16 with relative comfort in the end.
Arsenal vs BATE
Having being stunned by BATE last week in what was without an argument the biggest result from the first leg, Arsenal’s display at home was much more clinical and improved as they made light work of a side that had incurred a 1-0 win earlier. BATE conceded an early own goal, one that helped Arsenal immediately fin their footing in the match and from there on there was no stopping them as they crafted out a well worked win, winning 3-0 to ensure they moved on to the next round.
