One driver sets the fastest lap at each race with the fastest lap award going to the man who sets the most over the season. For this season the award went to Mercedes’ man Valtteri Bottas who recorded the fastest lap at 7 venues. He was accompanied by team-mate Lewis Hamilton in third with three laps. Daniel Ricardo took the second spot with 4 fastest laps.
Fastest Pit Stop
The pit stop is one of the most important components of a race and can be a game changer in races for teams. It defines teamwork that works in fluidity, absolute precision and requires split-second decisions. Stopping, changing tyres and accelerating away need to be done within a blink of an eye for a smooth pit stop. Recognizing the outstanding work and performance of the team behind the doors who are an integral part of a team’s success over a season, the fastest pit stop award is given to teams every season.
With 466 points, Red Bull were the winners for 2018. Ferrari with 403 and Mercedes with 354 points came in at second and third place respectively. Red Bull had the fastest first two times on final race day as well with a time of 2.08 seconds for Verstappen and 2.24 seconds for Ricciardo. 25, 18 and 15 points are awarded to the top 3 places per race.
