Since the stadiums are relatively in close vicinity to each other, fans and media people will be able to attend the matches practically throughout the day. The group stage would consist of 32 teams competing against each other in different groups over 12 days. The knockout stages are scheduled to begin around 6 pm and 10 pm local time (8.30 pm and 12.30 am IST). Also, the venue for the opening match and the finals of the prestigious tournament has been fixed. The opening match is to be played at the Al Bayt stadium in Al Khor on Monday, November 21 and the venue, date, and time for the final match is the Lusail Stadium in Doha, on Sunday, December 18, kick-off at 6 pm local time (8.30 pm IST).

The two semifinals are also to be hosted at the same stadiums. The Al Bayt stadium has a capacity of 60,000 people while the Lusail stadium can host 80,000 people at a time. In an interview, Nasser Al Khater, CEO of the Qatar World Cup organizing company, said that more than 85 percent of the work related to the infrastructure and restructuring of the stadium has already been completed and in the final two years before the World Cup they would focus on operations and fan-experience departments.
