Fifth Navratri Mata: Day 5 of Navratri is of Maa Skandamata

The fifth manifestation among Nava Durgas, Maa Skandamata is worshipped on the fifth day of Navaratri. She is the mother of Kumara Skanda or Kumara Kartikeya also called Lord Murugan in South India, whom she is always seen holding in her lap as an infant. Kumar Skanda was chosen by gods as their commander in the famous “Deva-Asura Sangram”, the war of Gods & demons. Using a lion to ride, Maa Skandamata holds Lord Skanda in her right upper arm. She holds lotus flower in two of her hands. She is also the Goddess of Fire.maa skandamata

सिंघासनगता नित्यम पद्माश्रितकरद्वया |

Meaning in Hindi:

नित्य सिंह के आसन पर विराजमान, दो हाथो में कमल के पुष्प धारण करने वाली, यशश्विनी देवी स्कन्दमाता सदा शुभ फल प्रदान करो !!

Meaning in English:

May Devi Skandamata, who is always riding on a lion and whose hands are adorned with lotus flowers, be always propitious to me.

May the Goddess Skandamata showers her blessings on you. Happy Navratri. Jai Mata Di!

Method of worship

  • Worship the mother’s statue by applying kumkum, akshat, and sandalwood.
  • Light a lamp in front of Tulsi Mata.
  • Banana is loved by the mother very much,  offer saffron.
