George Michael, who rocked the youth in the 1980s, died yesterday at the age of 53, his publicist confirmed.
His Publicist said, “It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period, the family would ask their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage.”
George Michael found his stardom with Wham!, a group formed along with Andrew Ridgeley And famous hits such as, “Wake me Up Before Go-Go”, “ Last Christmas”, “Careless Whisper”.
He later became a solo singer, with a serious image and massive hits such as, “Father Figure”, “I want your Sex”, “Faith”. He sold more than 100 million albums.
In 1998, Michael publicly came out as gay in an interview with CNN and a week after he was arrested for “investigation of misdemeanor lewd conduct” in a park restroom.
He told CNN, “I don’t feel any shame. I feel stupid and I feel reckless and weak for having allowed my sexuality to be exposed this way. But I don’t feel any shame whatsoever; I want to say that I have no problem with people knowing that I’m in a relationship with a man right now. I have not been in a relationship with a woman for almost 10 years.”
George Michael was and is considered a great singer and a great soul.
