Another action-packed day in the Pro Kabaddi League provided lots of excitement and action for the fans. Gujarat Fortunegiants stormed past Puneri Paltan as they sapped the soul out of the Paltan’s team to win by a huge margin of 44-20. In the second game of the day, Bengal Warriors did just enough to see off Tamil Thalaivas by 4 points. A win for both the teams means that they sit comfortably on top of zone A and zone B as the tournament nears the end of the group matches.
Kicking off the day’s proceedings were Gujarat and Puneri Paltan in what was anticipated to be one of the best clashes of zone A. In the inaugural match of the Pune leg in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 5, hosts Puneri Paltan took on the Gujarat Fortunegiants at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex. Sukesh Hegde was in dazzling form for Gujarat as he ran riot past the Paltan’s defenders. He troubled Puneri Paltan the entire match as he notched up a thoroughly deserved Super 10.Lead by a hedge; Gujarat decimated the opposition to win 44-20. The win took Gujarat to 82 points and with that 8 points clear of second-placed Haryana. Pune was meanwhile unable to put any pressure on Haryana who they sit behind in the table at third.
The same venue played host for the second match of the day between Bengal and Tamil Thalaivas. This match was more evenly contested and an equal affair in contrast to the previous match. Bengal won the crucial moments in the match to win a closely contested affair 34-20. Maninder Singh scored 12 raid points and along with Surjeet Singh, who scored six tackle points ensured that Bengal takes the top spot in zone B. Ajay Thakur’s superb effort of 14 points for Tamil Thalaivas was unfortunately not enough to see his team past the finishing line.
