Some other texts state that Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born on October 20, 1469. Guru Nanak Dev ji’s father’s name was Mehta Kalyan Das. He was also known as Mehta Kalu. He was Rai Bular’s agent and chief accountant. Guruji’s mother name was Mata Tripta, a woman of simple and religious nature. Nanak Dev ji had an elder sister named Nanki. Guru Nanak Dev learned Hindi at the age of 7. At the age of 13, he learned Persian and Sanskrit and at the age of 16, he became the most educated young man in his field.

Nanak Dev Ji was married to Mata Sulakhni ji, who gave birth to two sons, Sri Chand and Lakhmi Das. In November 1504, Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s elder sister Nanki took him to Sultanpur Lodi, where her husband Jai Ram Ji got him the job of a storekeeper at Modikhana of Daulat Khan Lodhi, a local Nawab. When he was 38 years old, Nanak Dev ji heard the call of God and dedicated himself to the service of humanity. Nanak Dev ji took many long journeys to propagate his unique and divine doctrine(Sikhism).

After visiting almost all the places in Punjab, Guru Nanak Dev ji decided to go on four long journeys, called ‘Char Udasi’ of Nanak Dev Ji. During his four visits, he visited Kurukshetra, Haridwar, Joshi Math, Ratha Sahib, Gorakh Matta (Nanak Matta), Prayag, Varanasi, Gaya, Patna, Dhubri and Assam, Dhaka, Puri, Cuttack, Rameswaram.

Apart from this, he also travelled to Somnath, Dwarka, Junagarh, Ujjain, Ajmer, Mathura, Pakpattan, Talwandi, Lahore, Sultanpur, Bilaspur, Rewalsar, Jwalaji, Spiti Valley, Tibet, Ladakh, Kargil, Amarnath, Srinagar and Baramulla.

In the year 1522, Guru Nanak Dev Ji settled in the city of Kartarpur (now in Pakistan) and spent the rest of his life there till 1539. There he started Dainik (daily) Kirtan and Langar (free kitchen). When the life of Nanak Dev ji was coming to an end, he made Bhai Lehna ji (Guru Angad Dev Ji) the second Nanak. After a few days, on 22 September 1539, he passed away.
