She is a leading actress in the South Indian film industry today, with 4 Filmfare awards to her name.
Samantha started working as a model on a part-time basis while pursuing a degree in commerce. She soon started receiving offers for films. Her debut fetched her the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Actress and the Nandi Award. She then became the second ever actress to win both the Filmfare Award for Best Tamil Actress and the Filmfare Award for Best Telugu Actress in the same year (2012) for her performances in ‘Neethaane En Ponvasantham’ and ‘Eega’. Apart from her commercially hit films, Samantha Akkineni is also a prominent celebrity endorser for various brands and products while also owning an NGO, Pratyusha Support. This NGO began in 2012 and provides medical support to women and children. Samantha also donates her earnings from her endorsements, product launches, and inauguration events to support her NGO.

Samantha was born to a Telugu father and a Malayali mother. She was brought up in Pallavaram, Chennai and is the youngest child in her family. Despite her mixed regional background, Samantha considera herself a Tamilian.
Samantha Akkineni was schooled at Holy Angels Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School after which she pursued a degree in commerce from Stella Maris College in Chennai.

After having a successful career in the film industry, Samantha suffered from an extended illness in 2012. This saw her opting out of big film projects. In 2017, Samantha Akkineni was also appointed as the ambassador for Telangana Handlooms by the government of Telangana. She currently works to promote handloom textiles in the state of Telangana.
