Functions of the Liver – World Liver Day 2021: Liver Cleansing Tips, Liver Functions, Diseases, and more: World Liver Day is celebrated worldwide on 19 April every year. This day is celebrated to spread awareness about liver related problems and disease.
According to the American Liver Foundation, every year 33,000 people in America lose their lives due to liver cancer! The situation in India is also not very different. There is also an increased risk of liver problems among the youth. Therefore, it is important that you become more aware of liver health on the occasion of World Liver Day.
Every year on the occasion of World Liver Day, April 19, World Health Organization organizes programs, campaigns and rallies, so that people pay attention to its care. This day educates people about liver functioning and focuses on small and big problems in relation to it. The purpose of this day is to spread awareness about liver related problems.
Functions of the Liver
The liver is known as the most complex organ of the body after the brain. It plays an important role in the digestive process. Everything you eat or drink, including medicine, passes through the liver.

Liver plays an important role in our body such as:
Fighting infection and disease
Blood sugar regulation
Removing toxins from the body
Regulates cholesterol levels
Help with blood clotting (thick)
Release bile (a liquid that breaks down fat in digestion).

You cannot survive without it. It is an organ that easily gets damaged if you do not take good care of it. Some of our habits can be due to unintentional liver damage. Therefore, it is very important to know about them-
1- Drink less water or drink at the wrong time
Water helps to flush out the toxins from the body and prevents the liver from getting hurt, Proper hydration makes the blood thinner, Therefore, it is easier for the liver to filter blood and remove toxins. Many people drink water immediately before a meal.
While some people drink water repeatedly during meals. Doing so affects the functioning of the liver. So drink plenty of water, but not during meals!

2- Consuming more sugar
Sugar directly damages the liver. Sugar is as toxic as alcohol and is more addictive than cocaine. Fructose ie white sugar (aka, refined sugar) or corn syrup is not tolerated by the liver in any dose.
These sugars are converted to fat and eventually lead to liver disease. Therefore, use natural sugars like fruits, vegetables, coconut sugar. Your liver is designed to digest this sugar naturally.

3- Excess salt intake
Consuming too much salt increases the blood pressure in the main artery of your liver, which can eventually lead to liver disease. Salt equal to 2,300 milligrams per day i.e. no more than 1 teaspoon salt should be eaten.
Instead of using salt, try cooking your meal with spices. Also know that most fast foods, processed and pre-packaged readymade foods, baked goods and bread often contain more salt.
4- Drinking Alcohol
When we consume alcohol, the liver converts its energy to convert alcohol into a less toxic substance. This weakens it to perform other important tasks. However, drinking alcohol in moderation is important to protect the liver. So, drinking alcohol with food is safer than drinking empty alcohol.
5- Eating more trans fat
Trans fat is a man made fat, often found in fast food, processed and pre-packaged ready-made foods (ie, ready-made baked goods, chips, cereals, granola, and protein bars). Over time, regular intake of trans fats causes too much fat in the liver cells.

Liver cells begin to swell, making liver tissue hard and stained. Therefore, check the label before purchasing something. Even if it is written “0” grams of trans fat, it may still contain small amounts.

— Eat garlic, grapes, carrots, green leafy vegetables, apples and walnuts
— Use olive oil
– – Take lemon, lemon juice and green tea
— Prefer alternative grains such as quinoa and millet
— Eat crucifier vegetables (cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower)
— Use turmeric in food
