Loose motion aka Diarrhea is a medical condition which involves frequent bowel movement. It causes fluid loss thus resulting in dehydration. Spicy food, stale food that has gone bad, elevated stress levels, food intolerance, infection and antibiotics may trigger loose motions. Although, it is a common condition which can be easily treated by medicines and even at home.

Here are five home remedies for controlling diarrhea :

1-ORS

  • Recommended by WHO, ORS or Oral Rehydration Solution not only helps in controlling mild cases of loose motion but it even controls dehydration.

  • In 1 liter of water add 3/4 teaspoon of salt, 1 cup orange juice. You may add 1 teaspoon of sugar instead of juice. You can even add some lemon to this. Drink this solution throughout the day.

2-Yogurt

  • Rich in probiotics that helps in restoring the healthy bacteria in our gut Yogurt helps to flush out the diarrhea-causing germs from our digestive tract.

  • Consume 2-3 cups of yogurt throughout the day.

3-Banana

  • The pectin in banana is a water soluble fiber which helps to absorb the fluids in the intestine thus adding bulk to the stool.

  • Due to its high potassium content it even helps in restoring the electrolytes lost during diarrhea. Eat 2-3 ripe bananas throughout the day.

  • Some of the best starchy foods includes precooked white rice, tapioca cereals, boiled potatoes, cooked carrots and apple sauce.

5-Carom seeds

  • Many studies have shown its positive effects on colic, flatulence and loose motions induced diarrhea.

  • Take a spoonful of carom seeds with a pinch of salt. Gulp it down with water for relief. You may also infuse water with these seeds by boiling them together. Consume at least 2-3 glasses of this water in a day to get relief.

Apart from these, you can also consume guava. The astringent compound of the guava helps to bind loose stools.
