Certainly, skin is the most sensitive part of the body and our face has the most delicate skin. We do everything to make our face look better, but sometimes we end up using some things that are strictly prohibited by the dermatologists! So, what are these things? Here’s the list of five things you should never use on your face.
- Using chemical peel at home
Angela Lamb, MD, Dermatologist, The Mount Sinai Hospital, says that she’s never applied a strong chemical on her face while at home. At times people buy medical-grade peels which are too strong for home use. Bad results like redness and too much peeling might lead to long-term scarring and discoloration.
Jeanine Downie, MD, Director of Image Dermatology in Montclair, NJ avoids using loofah on face as they are abrasive and can irritate the skin. The sponges attract bacteria which might worsen the underlying acne and eczema. So, using loofah on the face is a big No.
- Collagen content moisturizer
ManjulaJegasothy, MD, CEO and Founder of Miami Skin Institute believes that the collagen molecule is “too large to work as a topical.” As the active ingredient do not get inside the skin and you end up buying overly expensive moisturizer. So, better invest in a water based moisturizer
- Harsh face scrub
According to Brooke Jackson, MD, Founder and Medical Director of Skin Wellness Dermatology Associates in Durham, NC, you do not need to use abrasive scrub as this will end up in irritation and hyperpigmentation. Rather than using this, the skin expert uses creamy wash to cleanse.
- Home-based micro-needling device
Ava Shamban, MD, a dermatologist in Beverly Hills and author of Heal Your Skin says that such treatment create tiny holes in the skin, increasing the risk of infection. The skin barrier function is compromised. If you want to go for this treatment, get this done professionally as they do it in a controlled and cleaner environment making it way more safer.
