- KXIP won by 6 wickets
- SRH and RR take on each other tomorrow
Super Sunday was a delight for cricket lovers around the world as the Indian Premier League provided two thrilling matches to indulge in. After the gala opening ceremony on Saturday followed by a thriller between the reigning champions Mumbai Indians and comeback side Chennai Super Kings, the IPL announced itself this year in grand style. And day 2 was even more exciting than day 1 as both the matches saw some nail-biting moments and hard-hitting batting. Here are the Day 2 Highlights IPL 2018 :
Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab started the day as they squared off against each other in Mohali. The first match of the day saw Delhi bat first in front of a jam-packed IS Bindra Stadium that was filled with atmosphere. Delhi got off to the perfect start with the skilled Gautam Gambhir proving them with a peach of a start. Scoring runs all around the park, skipper Gambhir raced to his half-century and proved Delhi’s decision of buying him back. His run-out, however, proved to be a bane for Delhi as any of their batsmen failed to tee off from there on. Afghanistan off-spinner Mujeeb-r Rahman, who finished with 2 for 28 in 4 overs, put on a stellar show with skipper Ashwin with the bowl to restrict Delhi to an average 166 on a batting heaven.
Coming out to bat KL Rahul, the IPL’s most expense Indian buy at 11.5 crores silenced all his critics. He blew apart the Delhi bowlers, taking a fancy to veteran Amit Mishra as he stormed to the quickest half-century in the history of the IPL off just 14 balls. His rollercoaster innings all but sealed the match for Punjab and despite Delhi coming back into the game with two quick wickets, it was never enough for the visitors as they lost their first match by 6 wickets.

In the second match of the day, Bangalore took on Kolkata. Looking to improve their dismal record against Kolkata in Kolkata, the Virat Kohli lead unit batted first. Despite losing opener Quinton de Kock cheaply, Brendon McCullum took charge as he blasted himself to 43 off just 27 balls 6 fours and 2 sixes. His dismissal saw Virat Kohli (31) and de Villiers take charge off the innings. The Bangalore side was cruising to a total of 180 plus given de Villiers clean hitting which saw him hit 5 massive ones as he fearlessly took on every bowler sent to contain him. The dismissal of both of consecutive balls, however, put the brakes on the Royal Challengers innings who managed 176 in the end.
Given a good enough total to chase, Kolkata’s opener Sunil Narine all but ended in the match inside the powerplay courtesy of his assault. Much like the first match of the day, the second match was also won by some fine batting from the opener of the chasing side. His 50 off 16 balls saw Kolkata take home the match by 4 wickets.
