Members Announced for Hockey World Cup National Camp

With preparations in full swing for the Hockey World Cup 2018 national camp to be hosted in Bhubaneswar come November 28. India’s premier hockey body, Hockey India announced its 34 member core group for the national camp. The training session which will last for 23 days will come to an end on 23 November and is the last chance for the Indian contingent to fine hone itself for hockey’s premier tournament.

Beginning in November at the refurbished Kalinga Stadium, the Hockey World Cup 2018 national camp held under Coach Harendra Singh will give the Indians a chance to test out the newly laid training and main pitch and get acclimatize to the conditions in the host city. For the world No.5 side the training camp is not only great preparation for the mega-event but will also give the selection committee and management the opportunity to pick their final 18 ahead of the showpiece cup.

“Our campaign at the 5th Men’s Hero Asian Champions Trophy Muscat 2018 served as good preparation for the team before the Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup Bhubaneswar 2018, but now is the most critical time for us as we look to reinvigorate our spirits and work on the areas which need improvement. The National Camp will give all the 34 Core Group players the chance to work hard and show what edge they can provide to the team,” said Singh.

The 34-member Core Group includes three Goalkeepers PR Sreejesh, Suraj Karkera and Krishan Pathak. Defenders Harmanpreet Singh, Gurinder Singh, Varun Kumar, Kothajit Singh Khadangbam, Surender Kumar, Amit Rohidas, Jarmanpreet Singh, Pardeep Singh, Suman Beck and Captain of the Junior Men’s team for the Sultan of Johor Cup 2018, Mandeep Mor, have been called up for the National Camp.

Among midfielders, Manpreet Singh, Chinglensana Singh Kangujam, Sumit, Simranjeet Singh, Nilakanta Sharma, Hardik Singh, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Yashdeep Siwach and Vishal Antil have been picked. Akashdeep Singh, Gurjant Singh, Mandeep Singh, Dilpreet Singh, Sumit Kumar, Gursahibjit Singh and Shilanand Lakra have been selected as the forwards.

 Starting November 5, ticket sales for the Men’s Hockey World Cup have also been opened for the public. Hockey India in a press release announced that the physical sale of tickets for the tournament will take place at the Box Office at Gate No. 9 and all the various outlets’ set up around the city, available from 10.00hrs – 17.00hrs IST every day.  Tickets for the Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup Bhubaneswar 2018 are also available online at

 General tickets for the Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup Bhubaneswar 2018 are priced at Rs 200 (East Stand), Rs 100 (North Stand) and Rs 100 (South Stand) for the Pool and Crossover matches 

Tickets for the Knockout, SemiFinals and Final matches are priced at Rs 250 (East Stand), Rs 150 (North Stand and Rs 150 (South Stand).
