Importance of Holi

  • The festival of Holi is celebrated on the Chaturdashi of Phalgun month Shukla Paksha. This festival is celebrated as a symbol of good over evil. On this day Holika Dahan is done and on the next day, people play with colors which is also known as Rangawali or Dhulandi.
  • People burn their ego, evils, negativity, etc. in Holika fire and wish each other Holi by applying colors.
  • According to mythological beliefs, on this day Hiranyakashipu’s sister Holika, who had the boon of not burning in fire sat in the fire carrying Prahlad, the supreme devotee of Lord Vishnu. But nothing happened to Prahlad and Holika herself got burnt in that fire.
