Interviewers will initiate the interview discussion by asking a really common question “Tell me something about yourself”. It is a way to break the ice and get things going. It also provides an insight for the hiring manager to evaluate the personality to determine if you are the right fit for the job or position applied.


It is advised not to share too much or too less information. The interviewer doesn’t want to know everything about you, but sharing too little information can make him or her wonder why you aren’t more open in sharing your viewpoints.

Don’t waste your time by providing a long recitation of your resume. Instead of that, be crisp and concise that summarizes your personal and professional expertise and makes you the right fit for the job.


  • Highlight Primary Selling Points for the Job

You can highlight some of your primary selling points like number of years of professional experience, certifications, training undertaken which makes you a stand out performer. It is important to focus on the qualifications and how you can meet and exceed expectations.


  • Show Interest and Why you want this Position

You can end your introduction by showing your interest and why you want the position. This gives a fair idea that you are competitive and serious about taking bigger and better challenges.


  • Avoid Negative Responses or Controversy

It is advised not to give negative responses or statements that promote negative environment. You should stay clear of controversial topics like politics or bias to specific religious group. It is important to avoid any references to topics that will portray your personality in a negative manner.

  • Sharing Personal Information is just not Right

There is absolutely no need to discuss or disclose personal information related to spouses, partners, children or any other strictly personal information as it doesn’t leave a positive impression and clearly indicates that you are too much concerned about sharing your personal details.
