Hurricane Matthew bombarded Florida with heavy rains as a deadly storm came closer to the coast.
Two million people across the place were warned to flee inland.
It has been the most powerful storm in a decade and had left 300 dead across the Caribbean.
President Barack Obama declared a state of emergency for Florida and South Carolina.
Rick Scott, the governor said, “This storm’s a monster,” and added, “I’m going to pray for everybody’s safety.”
More than 60,000 homes and businesses were left with no power by Thursday night. Streets in Vero Beach were partially covered with water.
Millions of people were asked to evacuate their homes in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina.
Scott warned, “The storm has already killed people. We should expect the same impact in Florida”.
