IAAF World Champions London Medal Tally: USA Sit On Top With 30 Medals

Highlights:

  • The USA won 30 medals with 10 golds
  • Kenya and SA came 2nd and 3rd
  • Hosts Great Britain ended on 6th

The USA once again proved their dominance in the world of athletics as they dominated the recently concluded IAAF World Champions in London to end up on top of the medals table. They won 30 medals which included 10 gold and were a long way ahead of second placed Kenya who ended with a tally of 1 medals. Great Britain was unable to make the most of their home support as they ended up with only 6 medals to finish sixth.

The most surprising result of the tournament was the men’s 4x400m with Trinidad & Tobago claiming the title. Lalonde Gordon overhauled world finalist Fred Kerley on the anchor for a famous win, 2:58.12 to 2:58.61 for Trinidad & Tobago.

Having topped the medal table at the last World Championships in Beijing with seven gold medals, Kenya brought their tally up to five across the championships this time around. South Africa came third with a total of six medals.

The tournament also saw the much decorated Usain Bolt retire. It was a landmark circuit for the Jamaican who has illuminated track and field these past nine years with his superhuman talent and his stellar personality.
