ICC Cricket Ranking Player List – The One Day International format started in 1971 and since then, this format has emerged as the most loved and favourite format of all cricket fans in India and around the world. Fans had to wait for the results for almost 5 days in Test cricket, that is also why the ODI format has gained more popularity in a very short time.

In view of the increasing popularity of this format, the ICC planned the World Cup event as well as rankings of International players. These rankings are based on their performance, due to which, players started competing by giving good individual performances on the field.

Today let us discuss 3 batsmen from the Indian Cricket Team who played the lowest number of matches in International Cricket arena and still topped the list of batsmen in the ODI rankings.

MS Dhoni – 42 matches

The Indian legendary wicketkeeper-batsman and skipper MS Dhoni is at the top of this list. Dhoni achieved the rank of the top batsman in ODI cricket in just two years after making his International debut. Dhoni made his International Cricket debut in the year 2004 and went on to achieve the number 1 ranking in the 50 over format after playing just the first 42 One Day International matches for India. Dhoni was nowhere in the good frame of the captain and selectors when he made his debut for India. But due to his excellent performance as the wicket keeper batsman, he moved up to the number 1 ODI ranking in April 2006. This is the world record achieved by Mahi. He grabbed the number 1 ranking by playing the lowest number of matches. Now, after 14 years, this record is still intact in MSD’s name.

Sachin Tendulkar – 105 matches

The former Indian great batsman Sachin Tendulkar has many records to his name from his 24-year-career. He is the batsman who scored the most runs and centuries in ODIs. However, Sachin is second on this list. He is the veteran who played ODI cricket for 24 years continuously and achieved the rank of the number 1 batsman in the ODI rankings. Sachin achieved this feat after playing 105 ODI matches since his debut in ODI cricket. Sachin was crowned as the number 1 batsman in ODIs for the first time in 1996.

Virat Kohli – 118 matches –

India’s run machine and current skipper Virat Kohli is one of the best batsmen from the world in the modern era. This is why, he is bound to be on this list. Kohli currently remains at the first position in the ODI rankings. However, Kohli, who made his debut in 2008, secured the first position in the ODI rankings after playing 118 ODIs after his debut. In October 2013, Kohli was ranked as the number 1 batsman in ODI cricket for the first time.
