- Rabada topped the bowlers chart
- Smith was top of the batsmen rankings
- Ashwin moved up two places
South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada continued his fine run this year as he moved top of the ICC Test Rankings for the month of March. A strong showing by him in the ongoing series against Australia has helped him gain places to occupy the top spot. The power shift in the recent rankings is just another testament to the young pacer’s immense skill and talent which has seen him terrorize batsmen.
Things turned rosy for Rabada once again after the recently suspended player was justly rewarded for him recent astounding performances. Suspended by the ICC for the remaining of South Africa’s matches against Australia with the series currently tied at 1-1, Rabada once again regained the top spot after he crossed the coveted 900 points mark. Rabada became the 23rd bowler to cross 900 points and only the fourth South Africa player to do so after Vernon Philander, Shaun Pollock, and Dale Steyn. For India, Ashwin gained two places as Josh Hazlewood (from 4th to 5th) and Mitchell Starc (5th to 9th) slipped in the rankings following Australia’s defeat despite India not playing a test match in the past two months. Ravindra Jadeja meanwhile retained his third place.
On the batting front, there was no change with Australian captain Steve Smith retaining his top spot with Indian captain Virat Kohli chasing him on second.
South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis suggested Rabada still has room for improvement.”A lot has been said about KG’s amazing rise,” du Plessis said.”I honestly still think KG will get better. I’m really excited to see what’s going to happen in his future.
